British Railways number 35029 'Ellerman Lines' entered traffic on 19 February 1949 and was officially named at Southampton Docks on the 1 March 1951 by Mr A.F.Hull, Chairman of Ellerman Lines. The locomotive was eventually withdrawn from service only 17 years after it had been built and was stored for a short while at Weymouth Shed before being sent to Barry for scrap in May 1967. In January 1974 'Ellerman Lines' was 'rescued' by the NRM and placed placed as a sectioned exhibit at the Museum in York where it can be seen today.
