A fleet of Diagram 72 10t vans were introduced in 1911 by the Great Eastern Railway. They were constructed to a 10ft 6in wheelbase and were used on a variety of freight workings. Originally designated as 10t vans, they were downgraded to 8t in June 1927. The vans had a long lifespan, with many still in revenue earning service in the late 1950s. In BR use, they could often be seen as part of engineering trains.
